The people of Mort are hardy farmers, woodsmen and hunters. Their main contact with the outside world is through large trading missions, who are extremely well armed with the very fine iron swords, spears and axes that the Mortish smiths produce. Their chain-mail is well regarded and their round oaken shields are solid and yet surprisingly light. A fair smattering of archers always accompanies any group.
Occasionally a fighting band leaves the country to seek adventure in foreign lands. Some say this is how the Vikingur ended up in Ashokka, however this is conjecture.
The Mortish are also skilled timber craftsmen and have developed long wooden ships with shallow keels that have proven swift river craft. The Mort boats have also been at sea, a long way from their landlocked homeland.
The cold climate and high altitude of Mort leads to the Mortish wearing much fur and drinking much ale. They ride horses when they can, but always fight on foot, forming an unbreakable shield-wall with archers shooting from behind.
